Parent Involvement Opportunities

- LAP Family Night – This annual event is a great opportunity for parents to meet their student’s LAP teachers, ask questions about classroom expectations and program goals, access community agencies to obtain free resources and come together to celebrate the diversity of our families in Wayne. In addition, each student is offered a free book to encourage reading in the home.

Ben Davis High School Student Cafeteria and commons area - LAP Broad Based Committee – This committee is made up of ELs staff, Administrators, General Ed. Teachers and LAP Parents. It meets to discuss LAP programming modifications that would benefit students and comply with state and federal guidelines. If you are interested in participating in this committee, please contact the LAP Office at 988-8653. We welcome your comments and recommendations.

Education Center Board Room or virtual - Parent Workshops – The Language Assistance Program will host parent workshops throughout the school year related to
- Homework help at home. This workshop will provide parents with ideas on how to create a learning environment in their home.
- Parents role at the school. This workshop explains what schools expect from parents and their required involvement with the student’s education.
- Newcomer meetings – Our Immigrant Support, Mrs. Bukola Akinbola, will host monthly meetings for our new international families at our Education Center location. Invited families can choose between a morning and an evening session based on their availability.

Spanish Computer Class Opporunities
Spanish Speaking parents, please feel free to register at the Indianapolis Central Library for free computer classes by calling 317-300-5695. Classes will be facilitated in Spanish at the Indianapolis Central Library!
